St George’s, Kirwee – COMPLETE!

We’re still here and we’re still out there recording Canterbury’s cemeteries! The cute wee cemetery in the grounds of St George’s church in Kirwee has been photographed and added to the Hunting Kiwis blog. Dominant families in this cemetery are FRIZZELL, KELLY, AND ROPER. We have a lot of work in progress including Darfield Catholic … Continue reading

Christchurch Earthquake

My family and friends are safe. Our thoughts are with those in our beautiful city of Christchurch, which has been devastated by a 6.3 aftershock from the 7.1 Darfield earthquake that motivated me to start this project.   Kia Kaha Christchurch (“stay strong”). All donations for gravestone images continue to be directed to the churches … Continue reading

St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church – Darfield

On a geo-caching trip today I happened to pass by St Joseph’s Roman Catholic church in Darfield and couldn’t resist popping in for a quick look around and to take some photos. I knew I didn’t have time to record all of the gravestones, but I did take a few teasers that I have already … Continue reading

Waddington Cemetery complete!

Waddington Cemetery is just across the road from where I live, yet has been the most frustrating to complete. I’m not a terribly superstitious person, but I was beginning to wonder if someone or something didn’t want me to finish photographing the cemetery. Each time I visited I was plagued by technical glitches or dead … Continue reading

Work in Progress Update

I am back from some time away from the earthquakes and am now finishing up Waddington Cemetery and Kimberley Cemetery. Work will soon begin on Greendale Cemetery. Thank you to Hunting Kiwis subscriber Michelle Cook of Christchurch, New Zealand, for shedding some light on some of the un-marked graves recently discovered at Waddington Cemetery. I … Continue reading

Kirwee Public Cemetery complete!

Ok folks, as promised, all gravestones in Kirwee Public Cemetery have now been photographed and uploaded. Dominant surnames in this cemetery include DYSART, FINLAY and HARWOOD. Remember to email me for full gravestone images. Happy Hunting!

In progress – Kirwee Public Cemetery and Kimberley

We’re still snapping away, aided by the fantastic summer weather we’ve been getting. Kirwee Public Cemetery has been photographed and listings are now appearing, slowly but surely. Kimberley is also in progress, but to make sure I don’t get too far ahead of myself I will complete Kirwee’s two cemeteries before listing Kimberley. Remember, by … Continue reading

In progress – St George’s Church and Cemetery, Kirwee

I’m making the most of the fine weather over the festive period and have completed photography at both cemeteries in Kirwee (St George’s / Public). Listings are slowly being added to the Kirwee burials listing. Please check back often for updates.

Photography has begun at Kimberley Cemetery

A very Happy New Year to all my readers. I hope you all find what you are looking for – whether in life or in the archives! This quick update is to let you all know that I have started work on Kimberley Cemetery. This small, rural cemetery is located close to Darfield and has … Continue reading

Springfield/Kowhai Pass Cemetery (St Peter’s Church) complete!

All gravestones at the Kowhai Pass cemetery, attached to St Peter’s Church in Springfield, have now been photographed and listed on Hunting Kiwis. There are over 250 headstones but, remember, many of those represent several family members. I would hazard a guess that near on 1,000 people are buried in this small, rural cemetery. In … Continue reading
