Online cemeteries in Canterbury

Springfield Cemetery Gates from Church

Once you start digging around in blogs and discussion boards you soon find there are plenty of other cemeteries around Canterbury that are being recorded and put online for others to peruse.

The work being done, by councils and by local history groups and volunteers, is to be applauded.

Below is an ever-growing list of cemeteries, cemetery projects and burial information for locations across Canterbury. If you run a cemetery organisation, or are an individual recording or looking after a cemetery in New Zealand, please get in touch so I can add you to the list.

Ashburton District Council – online burial database currently being updated with some headstone images via the Mid Canterbury Family History Group.

  1. I have some of Pleaseant Point of Wall/O’Sullivan/Wall families.
St Anne is the name of the Catholic Church, in Pleasent Point, across from the Community/Historic Railway.

  2. dead links: Waimate Old & Lawn Cemeteries Map (pdf) and Waimate Area Cemeteries (maps & search). Those are the only two I clicked on. You need to check all your links.

  3. Greetings Helen (believe that’s your name) I have returned to search those two links and again find them both dead. The Waimate Area Cemeteries gives:

The other Waimate Old & Lawn Cemeteries Map (pdf gives a progress bar that never changes and at the bottom of the page, is this: Error #2032
